Vieux-Port de Marseille

The Old Port of Marseille (Vieux-Port de Marseille) is at the end of the major street of Marseille: Canebière. It has been the natural harbor of the city since the ancient times and is now the main popular place in Marseille. It became predominantly pedestrian in 2013. Vieux Port de Marseille has an energetic marina and is known for its fashionable hotels, beachfront cafes, and seafood restaurants serving mullet and lobster from the dockside fish market. The port is guarded by the centuries-old Fort Saint-Jean, which is located near the Romanesque-style Saint-Laurent Church. Late-night bars and clubs are full of visitors close to the art deco Opéra de Marseille.
