Neos Marmaras Marina
Neos Marmaras is a village on the Sithonia peninsula, in the Halkidiki peninsula, Greece. Built on five hills, the village resembles an island. It has more than 40 lovely bays that can be approached by boat. In Neos Marmaras, you can find a rare combination of activities involving Greek and international cuisine, romantic walks and nightlife entertainment. On the east side of Sithonia you will find yourself in a sailing paradise with winds blowing from east about 12-16 knots every evening, with no waves.
Sightseeing: One of the most important monuments in the area is the abandoned buildings of the Tripotamos monastery from the 19th century. Once part of the Kastamonitou monastery, this site features one of the most typical examples of traditional architecture in Halkidiki. Neos Marmaras has a recent history closely related with immigration. The history and traditions of the people in Neos Marmaras are symbolized by the “Santala”, a boat that led the fishing fleet of Marmaras island, in Asia Minor, that the refugees came from in 1922. You can see a remake of this ship at the central cove in Neos Marmaras. Parthenonas, standing at a height of 350m, is being preserved in relation to its historical importance and you can see it being restored continuously based on traditional architecture. This area can make a is a walk, a coffee or a meal really special. In Parthenonas, you can also find a folklore museum. Sithonias main mountainous body, Itamos (811m.) or Dragoudelis, is situated north of Parthenonas. If you want o the climb to the summit, you can follow a 15 km road. The Porto Carras vineyard is also very important. Located right next to Neos Marmaras, it is the second largest privately-owned vineyard in Europe. With the brand-name Porto Carras, it supplies the whole world with rich varieties of wine.
