ACI Marina Zut

ACI Marina Žut is open from mid-March until the end of October. It is located along the western shore in the bay of Zut in the northeast of the island of Zut.

Žut is part of the group of islands in the Kornati Archipelago. It is situated between the island of Pašman, and the Kornati Islands. The island of Pašman is connected to the mainland by a ferry service via Ugljan. The small island covers only fifteen square kilometers and it is only two kilometers wide, with the highest point 172 metres above sea level. The coast has a unique landscape; it is steep and very indented but also home to many beautiful coves including Hiljača, Sarušćica, Bizikovica, Golubovac, Žešnja, Podražanj and Strunac. When the sailors step on Žut, they can’t help but notice that it has a Robinson Crusoe feel to it. There are no permanent habitations on this island, you can only see olive and fig trees and vineyards. And the only people you meet will be some fisherman, shepherd or farmer occasionally coming from the island of Murter to take care of these.

Surrounded by breath taking natural beauty, this island is accessible only to those who come by boat. And the marina with 135 berths is in itself a sailor’s paradise. The sea around Žut, as well as the rest of the Kornati Archipelago, is an ideal spot for water sports. ACI Marina Žut is situated in the westernmost part of the harbour of Žut, in the northwest of the Kornati Archipelago. You will see the ACI flag at Cape Ražanj. The marina is open from April 1 through October 31.

The Tureta Fort built by the Byzantines is the most stunning structure in the archipelago. The architecture of the Tureta Fort on the island of Kornat dates back to late antiquity and the early Middle Ages, and it is thought to be built in the 6th century. The fort was probably used for military purposes, safeguarding and controlling navigation during the times when cruising the Adriatic was not very safe. The pirates were an important part of the nautical scene then.

The early Christian triple-nave basilica located under the Tureta Fort is another interesting Byzantine building on Kornat; with most of the apse and foundations still standing. It is estimated that Kornati had many inhabitants in those days, probably refugees from Dalmatia, fleeing the invasions of the Migration Period. The church has a size (30 by 13 m) to suggest that it was a relatively populated area. The church is dedicated to St. Mary, giving Kornat its alternative names of Insula Sanctae Mariae and Stomora Island.

Mooring: For yachts up to 20 m there are 135 berths. The marina is protected from the bora wind but the sirocco can cause swells. Water and electricity supply is scheduled: Water is supplied 8–10 A.M., and electricity 8–12 A.M. and 6–12 P.M.

Sightseeing: The island of Zut, part of the Kornati Archipelago, is located between the islands of Pasman and Kornat. There are no permanent settlements on the island, except for some temporary houses built by fishermen and farmers from Murter. The Kornati Archipelago is a breath taking landscape of 147 islands, islets and reefs, all part of the Kornati National Park. With fascinating cliffs, stone pasture grounds and a variety of vegetation, this area is a very popular recreatinal sailing destination. Constructions from Roman, Illyrian and medieval periods can found on the islands. And the only other buildings you can see on the islands are the old fish houses. They are primarily uninhabited, except for the largest one, Kornat,. In the Kornati you can anchor for a quick swim or for the night in one of the many beautiful coves. On some of the coves, you can also find some family restaurants.

Approach: In strong bura wind, the marina’s north pier and buoys are not safe for mooring. In strong southerly winds you can moor on the south pier. Boats with a draft of more than 3 metres can choose to moor anywhere on the south pier or at the very end of the north pier. The island of Žut, including the marina, belongs to the Žut-Sit island group, situated in the northeast of the Kornati Archipelago. If you are approaching from the west (from Kornati National Park) the shortest route to Žut is through Proversa Vela or Proversa Mala passages. At night it is recommended to sail through the passage of Proversa Mala which is marked by lighthouses. When approaching from the direction of Zadar, the route passes through the strait of Mali Ždrelac (bridge height 16.5 m). At the entrance to Žut Bay, where the ACI Marina Žut is located, you will see the island of Maslinjak.
