In ancient times, Simena was the name of the city which was located on a peninsula vis-a-vis Kekova island. On its steep slopes, rock tombs contrast with holiday homes, the traces of settlements going back thousands of years, all crowned by a fortress owing its present appearance to the Ottomans. On top you will find a Hellenistic amphitheatre carved into the rock where you can enjoy an overwhelming view. You walk on narrow and picturesque pathways up to the castle where you may find yourself taken back to bygone times - a feeling you won't have anywhere else along the coast.
